MAST® has a full range of ESBL combination discs comprising antibiotic discs and corresponding antibiotic discs with clavulanic acid. These are presented in packs of 6 x 50 cartridge discs and are designed for use in the MAST® DiscMaster (MDD62).
The latest addition is the AmpC and ESBL detection set (order code D68C) which consists of 4 x 50 discs also for use in the Mast® DiscMaster offering both convenience and consistent placement of discs. The set comprises one cartridge containing Cefpodoxime discs and then 3 other disc cartridges with Cefpodoxime plus various ESBL and Amp C inhibitors. Interpretation can be made by measuring and comparing zone sizes. A free software interpretative programme may be downloaded from our website.
If you want to make a more comprehensive differentiation of bacterial ESBL enzymes why not try the Cica Beta test. This is a rapid, chromogenic strip test for determining if the isolate is producing as ESBL, AmpC and/or MBL enzymes assisting the clinician in prescribing the relevant treatment for the usually seriously ill patient.
